A good friend brought us a selection of cakes and pies from Café Mengin in Erlangen for his birthday yesterday. The apple cake was way too sweet, had no shortcrust pastry base (what kind of base we didn’t really develop), the cheesecake had hardly any taste, a cream cake (?) With currants tasted sour and the "cream" was not fresh. Conclusion, 3 people left the cake ... for the price? Café Mengin was so good !? We are very disappointed.
First class service, very nice ambience and very good coffee and cake. 🍰 ☕ 🍬🕎💎
The pastries and pies are delicious here. Friendly atmosphere and order.
In the new lockdown from November 2, 2020, cakes and tarts can only be picked up on Fridays and Saturdays? Not on Sundays? You will be surprised if NO ONE comes to Cafe Mengin after the lockdown Then you can cross us with your narrow pieces and the exorbitant prices!
I am rather disappointed! Was there today with a friend and wanted to order coffee. However, there is neither soy nor almond milk as an alternative to normal cow's milk .. You could offer me lactose-free, which is of little use in the case of milk protein intolerance 😏 .. So I had to be satisfied with a chai tea WITHOUT milk. I think that for this location in Erlangen and for the prices that are called there, more service in this area should be a matter of course. What also puzzles me is the fact that the toilet is located in the basement, where the audience is over 70 👎 .. Next time I'll have to do better research before going to the coffeehouse.
The cakes and breakfast are delicious. However, very expensive. Another big downside is that you can't pay by card. With a cafe of its size, and nowadays in general, this is unacceptable.
Unfortunately, the service was very unfriendly, we felt annoyed. So I only stayed with the tea, it was very good. Prices were more expensive than the competition, which is probably due to the location / location. A shame, especially if you just want to bridge the time while the child has a serious operation in the nearby clinic.
I have known Cafe Mengin for more than 50 years and always enjoy coming back. Has a good atmosphere, good cakes and also good food as well as friendly service.
Very large selection of cakes, pies and pastries. Nicely located by the park. The service was unfortunately not good. Since the café is very large, everything looks more like clearance. I didn't find it really personable or cozy. In addition, the prices are high. € 3.00 for a simple espresso. € 3.50 for a cup of filter coffee ... 😐 I will probably not be back. In Erlangen there are many other cafés where I feel more comfortable. 🤷♂️
Very friendly staff, fine cakes, large selection. In terms of taste, the double espresso was more of an extended one, but also very good. I am very glad that coffeehouses like this are still around. If the prices here are too high for you, you shouldn't criticize it, but should go somewhere else and "enjoy" your run-of-the-mill coffee and cake there.
The only place in Erlangen where you have a large selection of cakes. Take-away prices are acceptable. But be careful ⚠️ No card payment possible !! Hence 2 star deduction.
So much love for the job :-) Yesterday we enjoyed the sunny weather on the terrace of Cafe Mengin and we had the special pleasure of being served by Erika. Simply magical! You rarely find so much love for your job, so much fun at work. The cake and coffee were delicious too. This is how days off are fun. I wish more waitresses would take an example and smile at the customers despite the mask and approach them positively. That would make customers happy and then it comes back. Thank you dear Erika and thank you to the rest of the team.
Very nice cafe with friendly service. Our food was very good and was nice to look at. The cake was very good too. The toilets were very clean and nice. We'd love to come back, unfortunately we live in the southern part of Bavaria and we wanted a café like this on site.
The food and coffees are good, but the waiters - not. I ate everything, informed the waiter that I would like to pay, then waited 10 minutes for him (and heard "a moment" 10 times). When paying he waited 1 minute as if he was waiting for the tip, and when I didn't react (I think you should give the tip if he liked everything, that's not compulsory), he has the change with the given to the smallest of coins and just walked away. All of his courtesy is gone for now. Maybe I don't understand something? But I thought if the coffee costs 0.2l € 5 (and the prices are generally higher than usual), the waiters have enough salary not to ask for money like the homeless ...
Very nice location, good cakes, decent coffee. Plus quick service. Only the rather high price level tarnishes the rating a bit. Because even if everything was really okay, it wasn't exceptional. The location is also beautiful, but 1 or 2 streets away is no different. We also had the impression that many people from Erlangen also stay here, which one would not necessarily expect given the exposed location. Worth a visit.
No disinfection of the tables. No registration of guests. DEHOGA signs are hung up. That must be enough. Incredible that I am being accused of telling the truth. We were in the cafe for an hour and saw some guests come and go. However, no rag and no disinfectant. The hygiene concept certainly provides for it that way. But it doesn't seem to be implemented. And we had coffee and drinks without registration. Just like the guests around us.
Good coffee, excellent cakes and warm dishes are great. In addition, the staff is friendly and sometimes has funny sayings in store. Invites you to linger.
You sit very well, but the prices for a cappuccino etc are neither on the menu nor do they match the location! They are simply completely overpriced and reach Munich level!
Sitting in the garden of this cafe, we can also admire the beautiful view of the palace park and an even more beautiful Orangery. The iced coffee we ordered tasted delicious and we didn't wait long (despite the large number of guests in the place). The service was impeccable. A very nice place.
Outstanding food! Super tasty: asparagus cream (the best of my life) Asparagus with cutlet Pasta with salmon (great sauce) The waiter could have been a little friendlier. The atmosphere was great, and at 6:30 p.m. a few tables with sun.
One of the best hangouts in Erlangen Tourist magnet
We took only coffee with liquors - but it was perfect!
Terrible service. The water was rude and wouldn't bring us an empty glass to share some tea.
A lovely place to eat and relax.
Really grumpy staff, most things are a bit overpriced. Pitty it is is so nicely located
Traditional setup but besides the cakes the other offers are just average and the place looks like it offers much more.
Rude and grumpy staff, bad manners toward costumers. I ordered a couple of cakes to take away and sat in of the tables to take pictures of my food, one of the workers approached to me to tell me with poor English that I couldn't eat there. Not recommended at all
Decent place to get a nice breakfast/brunch. We ordered a Norweger (top) and a Firenze breakfast, they were both enjoyable.
Well done cakes but service could be better.
My idea of a traditional pattiserie great cakes and coffee and a good menu. Excellent service and super location
Nice breakfast ❤
In my humble opinion this is the best cafe in the city. Amazing season Menü every month, amazing torts, excellent service. This is cafe, because it is open only till 6:30 pm, and because the variety of dishes is not huge. But the taste, quality and service are worth the high level restaurant. Best place!
Good breakfast but slow personel
It's a good option very quiet and it's very nice having your meals seeing the garden.
The cake is really good but every time we go the service is terribly rude and it is expensive
Poor value for money. The coffee is just bad. Nice view to the park though...
Best cake shop in Erlangen.
A little bit expensive but such a nice place
Traditional patisserie of the the old school dining excellent food. Not cheap.
Traditional German Cafe. Great cakes, good location next to the Schlossgarten. Service can be a little variable although it was excellent today.
Despite the good location advantage staff is always miserable and impatient while you order.. I avoid this place solely due to theat behavior.
Great location and really good food and sweets but staff needs to be sent to Vienna to learn to behave and serve properly.
had a coffee and some cake here and could sit outside watching the busy market place - nothing to complain about
